Accessibility statement
Conformance status
OctoDecks is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. This means some parts do not yet fully meet the standard. The known gaps are listed below, with what we are doing about them.
Accessibility features for students
- Screen reader mode for students who are blind or partially sighted. The teacher switches it on for a student and it is remembered on that student’s device. Slides read top to bottom like a page, each new slide is announced (“Slide 3 of 12”), and the device reads everything aloud with its own voice. Every activity becomes a simple form with standard controls and no dragging, and answers are chosen with one tap on large, high-contrast areas of the screen. It also works with VoiceOver.
- High-contrast display: screen reader mode shows black, white and bright colours only, with very large text.
- Read aloud on each student’s own device, with adjustable speed.
- Text settings each student controls privately: text size, spacing, a dyslexia-friendly font and background colours (including pastel and yellow).
- Reading view that shows a slide as a single readable page.
- Worksheets and exports generated from the same deck, with Support, Core and Filled-in versions.
- Students join with a room code: no account, no password, no app to install.
Accessibility features on this website
- The Display menu at the top of every page sets the background (Dark, Light, Blue, Green, Yellow, Cream or Peach) and the reading font (Standard, Lexend or OpenDyslexic). These are the same choices students get in the app. Your choice is saved on your device and applies on every page.
Known gaps
- Some drag-and-drop activities in the standard student view (such as card sort and match up) need a pointer. Screen reader mode provides a non-drag version of every activity.
- Some charts and diagrams on slides depend on the teacher adding a text description.
- Exported PDF worksheets are not yet tagged for screen readers. Teachers can use the PowerPoint export or screen reader mode instead.
- The teacher authoring editor has not yet been fully tested with screen readers.

How we tested
This statement is a self-assessment based on our own testing during development, including screen reader mode with VoiceOver on iPad. We have not yet had an independent audit. We will review this statement at least once a year and after major changes.
